W&M Set to Host CAA Men's Tennis Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary men's tennis hosts the 2024 CAA Men's Tennis Championship at the Mackesy Tennis Center, April 18-21.

As the No. 5 seed, the Tribe earned a bye in the opening round and will face No. 4 seed Monmouth in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 19, at noon. The winner earns a spot in the semifinals, which are set for noon on Saturday, with the championship to follow on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
Admission is free to all matches at the CAA Men's Tennis Championship.
 
News and Notes
- The Tribe enters in the CAA Championship on a three-match winning streak and sits at 12-9 on the year. The 12 wins are the most for the Tribe since 2018 when it won 13 and was the CAA runner-up.
- W&M closed out the regular season with wins over Longwood (4-0), Richmond (5-2), and Presbyterian (5-2).
- The Tribe was ranked in the ITA National Rankings for five-straight weeks. W&M came in as high as No. 65 on Feb. 27.
- The Tribe played a challenging schedule in 2024 with 12 of its 21 matches coming against teams that appeared in the ITA National Rankings this season. Eight of the those opponents are still currently in the national top-75 - No. 27 Princeton, No. 45 Florida Atlantic, No. 52 UNCW, No. 53 Liberty, No. 56 Old Dominion, No. 68 Yale, No. 71 Delaware, and No. 72 New Mexico.
- Along with a win over current No. 72 New Mexico, 4-3, in Wilmington, the Tribe topped then-No. 62 Dartmouth at home, 4-3, in February.
- Graduate student Satchel Benn and freshman Oliver Hague earned their second CAA Doubles Team of the Week honor on Tuesday. The pair also received the accolade on Feb. 20. They have won 12-straight matches and sits at 17-5 overall and 13-4 at No. 4.
- Hague has enjoyed one of the best freshman seasons in W&M history. He leads the Tribe with a 23-9 singles mark, including a 14-5 dual-match record. His 23 singles wins rank 10th all-time among Tribe freshmen, while his singles winning % (71.9) is seventh in program history for a rookie. Hague's doubles winning % of 70.8 is also the seventh-best for a freshman in program history.
- Graduate student Alexandre Leblanc has played at the top singles position for W&M. He is 16-9 on the year, including eight wins at No. 1. On March 12, Leblanc was named the CAA Player of the Week after Tribe wins over Navy and Drexel.
- Benn's season doubles winning % of 73.9 ranks 13th in school history. He is 17-6 in pair's action. In singles, Benn owns 18 wins, including an 11-7 dual-match record at the top three singles positions.
- Graduate students Bill Duo and Konstantinos Raptis hold down the top doubles post for the Green and Gold. The pair owns 10 wins on the year at No. 1.
 
CAA Tournament Notes
- The Green and Gold is the No. 5 seed in the CAA Tournament for the first time. The Tribe is 1-1 all-time against the No. 4 seed, topping No. 4 Charleston to win the league championship in 2015 and falling to No. 4 Elon in 2022.
- W&M will meet No. 4 Monmouth for the second-straight year in the CAA Quarterfinals. Last season, the Hawks topped the Tribe indoors at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center, 4-0. The Tribe is 24-5 all-time in the CAA Quarterfinals.
- As a player, W&M head coach Jeff Kader led W&M to upset wins over No. 62 Old Dominion and No. 38 VCU in the CAA Semifinals and Championship, respectively, as a senior in 2005. It marked the Tribe's first CAA title since 1990. Kader went a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 in doubles on his way to being named the most outstanding performer of the championship. He upset the No. 20-ranked player in the country from VCU and the No. 33-ranked player from ODU during the championship run.
- In total, W&M has advanced to the championship match on 13 occasions (1991, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021), winning league crowns in 2005 and 2015. In total, the Green and Gold has won four CAA titles with its championships in 1987 and 1990 coming via the team points format.
