Men's Tennis Wins Second Straight, Downing In-State Rival Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis won a pair of three-set matches to close out Richmond, 5-2, and win its second straight against an in-state rival on Wednesday afternoon.
 
W&M (11-9), which knocked off Longwood in its most recent contest, captured the doubles point, before winning four of six singles matches, including the final two in three sets. Graduate students Satchel Benn and Konstantinos Raptis, sophomore Albert Hansen and freshman Oliver Hague notched singles wins in lifting the Tribe to victory.
 
How It Happened
- The Tribe captured the doubles point for the 11th time this season, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Juniors Alexander Karman and Sean Joseph won their second straight on line three, topping Dylan Atkinson and Nick Roddy, 6-3.
- Benn and Hague continued their strong play at No. 2. The Tribe tandem won its 11th in a row, downing Daniel Kliebhan and Sebastian Miano, 6-4. They improved to 16-5 on the season and 12-4 on line two.
- Benn and Hague both won in straight sets in singles action at the top of the Tribe lineup. Benn claimed his first victory at No.1, upending Daniel Kliebhan in a pair of tiebreaker sets, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3). The Tribe graduate student upped his mark to 17-10 overall and 10-7 in dual-match action.
- Hague dropped just four games in his team-leading 22nd singles win. He dropped Davis Wiley, 6-4, 6-0, for his third straight win and moved to 13-5 in dual-match play.
- After a Spiders (11-7) win at No. 3, the match came down to a trio of three-set contests at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6.
- The Tribe claimed two of the three in picking up the team triumph. At No. 2, Raptis defeated Paxton Pritchard, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, for his second win in a row. It marked his 15th overall triumph and ninth in dual-match action.
- Hansen notched a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Dylan Atkinson at No. 5. He improved to 13-9 on the season and 7-4 on line five.
 
Up Next
The Tribe wraps up the regular season when it hosts Presbyterian on Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m. The match will serve as the Tribe's Senior Day with the festivities occurring before doubles at 9:30 a.m. W&M will also honor the 25th anniversary of the 1999 team which earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
