WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Falling in just its second game of the season on Saturday night, William & Mary baseball dropped a 7-9 contest to Boston College.
The Tribe fell to 8-2 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 6-2.
In a game which saw a grand slam from outfielder
Ben Parker,
Kevin Francella's first career triple, and a six-run second inning, the defensive mishaps may have made the difference in a two-run game.
Nate Knowles retired the first five batters he faced with four strikeouts before allowing the first Eagle to reach base.
Boston College opened the scoring in the second frame on a single that drove in a pair of runs.
The Tribe had a loud answer to the first pair of Eagles runs in the bottom of the second. Freshmen loaded the bases as
Anthony Greco singled for the Tribe's first hit of the day,
Trey Christman roped a 2-2 pitch to center field for a base knock of his own and Francella was hit by his fourth pitch on the year to get three on for the Tribe.
Luca Trigiani drew a four-pitch walk to drive in the Green & Gold's first run before Barnes wore his eighth pitch of the year for a second run.
Parker arrived at the plate with the bases loaded as he rocketed a go-ahead grand slam deep to left-center field for a six-run inning.
The Eagles responded with runs in each of the next four innings to take the lead back.
Despite getting one back in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Henry Jackson singled to the shortstop and Francella followed with his first career extra base hit to the tune of an RBI triple.
Trailing by only one after six, the Eagles got one more across in the top of the eighth inning to all but secure the game for Boston College.
The score remained untouched in a quiet ninth inning as
Carter Lovasz faced the minimum and Boston College's Michael Farinelli gave up a two-out single to Jackson before shutting the door on the game.
