Yu Chen Named CAA Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary graduate student Yu Chen was named the CAA Singles Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Chen went 2-0 in singles and doubles to help the Tribe to season-opening victories over Longwood and Georgetown last weekend.

Chen opened the weekend by blanking Longwood's Oriana Izarra, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 in W&M's 7-0 season-opening victory. She followed that by clinching the Tribe's 5-2 victory over Georgetown with a win at the No. 1 position, topping Chloe Bendetti, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Chen hit a forehand winner on match point to pull out her third-straight win and improve to 7-4 on the year.

In doubles, Chen teamed with junior Emma Fernald to go 2-0 at the top spot. The pair clinched the doubles point in the opening win over Longwood.

The Tribe returns to action with a pair of home matches this weekend. W&M welcomes Maryland to the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 10, before hosting St. John's on Sunday, Feb. 11. Both matches carry 11 a.m. start times.
