Baseball Powers to Victory over Holy Cross

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Powered by an outstanding effort out of the bullpen by Mark Hindy and a six-run fifth inning, William & Mary baseball earned its first victory of the season to down Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon, 8-4. The victory evens the series, 1-1, matching both teams' overall records.

Missing last season due to injury, Hindy made a statement in his return to the mound for the Tribe. Allowing only a pair of baserunners, he didn't surrender a hit over his 3.1 innings of work and fanned six Crusaders.

Hindy entered the game late in the third inning, retiring the final out with just two pitches. Holding the score in the fourth and fifth frames, he recorded four strikeouts. Working a 1-2-3 sixth inning, he struck out two more to finish off his outing. With the Tribe's victory, Hindy earned his first career win.

Joe Delossantos led the Tribe's offense with three hits, and a pair of RBI and runs.

Following four scoreless frames to start, the Tribe bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning for six runs. Sophomore infielder Corey Adams opened the inning, reaching on a passed ball, and Lucas Carmichael drew a walk.

Delossantos earned the Tribe's first hit of the day, singling through the left side to allow Adams to cross the plate with the Green & Gold's first run.

With the next two pitches, Jerry Barnes III loaded the bases and Henry Jackson earned his first RBI for the Tribe as they were each hit by pitches.

Following a pitching change, freshman Anthony Greco tallied his first pair of RBI with a single through the right side. Luca Trigiani roped a double to center field to score Jackson and Trey Christman's RBI groundout drove in the final of W&M's six runs of the inning.

Adding two more runs over the next two frames, Delossantos scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth and laced an RBI single to left field to score Adams following a double in the seventh.

Two Crusaders runs scored in the seventh, but graduate transfer Zack Potts earned the save in his Tribe debut, holding the score through the final two frames. With a 12-pitch final inning, Potts tied the knot on the first win of 2024 for the Green & Gold.
