TOWSON, Md.— The William & Mary women's soccer team completed their 2024 season with a trip to Towson on Sunday afternoon. The Tribe fell to the Tigers 1-0 at Tiger Field.
Two minutes in the Tigers posted the first shot of the game off a corner kick.
Morgan Wood was there for the Tribe however, scooping up the attempt to pick up an early save.
Wood picked up another save in the 16
th minute before
Abby Mills attempted the first shot of the afternoon for W&M. Her try was blocked by the Towson defense and the match remained scoreless.
Both teams continued to trade empty handed chances.
Marisa McClure fired a shot that missed the target in the 26
th minute. Towson immediately followed by having another shot saved by Wood over a minute later.
The stalemate continued for the rest of the half, heading to the break 0-0.
Shots after 45 minutes favored the Tigers 9-6. Wood totaled four saves in the first half.
W&M took the first two shots to open the second half via
Leah Iglesias and McClure, but both fell off target and the game remained scoreless.
One of the best chances of the game for Towson was in the 59
th minute when a bouncing ball in the box resulted in a shot that narrowly missed the right post.
The Tribe countered, earning a dangerous free kick from just outside the box five minutes later.
Gabriella Kurtas took the attempt and forced the keeper to make a diving save. The ball remained loose for a moment off the rebound before being cleared away by the Tigers.
Towson eventually opened the scoring in the 74
th minute, finding the back of the net off a header from a corner.
Kurtas had another chance from a free kick in the 84
th minute that just went over the crossbar, as the Tribe was unable to come up with a late equalizer, falling 1-0.
The final shot total favored Towson 16-15 on the day. Wood made five saves for the Green and Gold.
W&M finishes their 2024 campaign with an 8-10-0, 3-7-0 CAA record.
