Delgado Scores in Men's Soccer's 1-1 Draw at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— Sam Delgado's 64th minute goal gave William & Mary men's soccer a 1-0 second half lead, but a late Drexel score resulted in a 1-1 draw between the two sides on Saturday in Philadelphia.

The story of the first 45 minutes was the Tribe backline and keeper Ryan Eapen standing tall during numerous offensive chances for the Dragons.

Eapen gobbled up his first chance of the afternoon, picking up a save on a Drexel shot in the 6th minute.

The host Dragons had another dangerous opportunity eight minutes later but luckily the W&M defense was there at the last second to clear the ball and keep the match scoreless.

After having other shots miss the target and blocked by the Tribe in the middle portion of the half, Drexel tested Eapen twice more before the break. He was up to the task again however, picking up saves in the 35th and 42nd minutes as the match went to the half tied 0-0.

Shots favored the Dragons 8-0 after 45 minutes.

The Tribe came out more aggressive in the second half with Diogo Branco taking the first shot of the match in the 57th minute, but it was blocked. Aidan Morrison placed the first shot on goal for W&M moments later, having the attempt saved by the Dragon keeper.

Delgado let a try rip in the 62nd minute, but it was turned away by a Drexel defender before it reached the net.

That proved to just be a warmup act for the Tribe sophomore, who collected a bouncing ball in the left side of the box and beat the keeper to put W&M up 1-0 two minutes later.

The tally was the team-leading fourth of the year for Delgado.

After giving up the game's opening goal, the Dragons turned up their offensive intensity to try and salvage a result from the match. Once again, the Tribe defense answered the challenge.

The Green and Gold backline blocked a pair of shots, while Eapen snagged saves in the 69th and 84th minutes to keep W&M ahead by a goal.

Pushing all game to find the back of the net, Drexel finally found what they were looking for in the 90th minute, scoring off a header to end the game in a 1-1 tie.

The draw was the first of the season for the Tribe who now sits with seven points in the CAA standings.

Drexel led the final shot count 21-6 while Eapen made five saves for W&M.
