HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – William & Mary field hockey suffered a 2-0 setback at CAA foe Hofstra on Friday afternoon.
The Pride scored in the first and third quarters to secure the league victory.
Hofstra (3-11, 1-3 CAA) took a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the contest on a goal from Kelly Levengood off a penalty corner. The initial shot of the sequence from Tara McNally was blocked by the defense. The Pride graduate student recovered the rebound and found Levengood at the back post for the opening tally.
The Tribe (1-13, 1-3 CAA) was on the front foot in the second quarter, outshooting Hofstra, 7-4, and generating five penalty corners. Hofstra goalkeeper Pieke Roos was up to the task turning the Green and Gold away with four of her six saves in the period.

Emma Cari made back-to-back saves, but second rebound came back to Teresa Karoff. She fed to the middle of the area where Pilar Penaloza scored into an empty cage to increase the margin to 2-0.
Hofstra outshot the Tribe, 14-11, on the afternoon, but W&M held a 7-3 cushion in penalty corner chances. W&M put six shots on goal, including two from junior
Erin Griffin. Making her second collegiate start, Cari finished with seven saves in cage for the Tribe.
