CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – William & Mary sophomore
Francesca Davis remained undefeated on the fall season and advanced to the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship main draw with a pair of wins on Thursday.
Davis won both matches in straight sets to become the fifth Tribe player to earn a spot in the main singles draw. She won matching 6-2 sets in her first victory over Radford's Rachel Ekanem, before topping George Washington's Victoria Sasinka, 7-6 (2), 6-2. Davis ran her season ledger to 8-0.
Freshman
Mira Kernagis won her opening round contest in the qualifying draw on Thursday, before dropping her first match of the fall in the second round. She downed Loyola Maryland's Lauren Manwiller in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to start the day. With a spot in the main draw on the line, Kernagis battled into a third set with All-MEAC Second Team choice Nadia Pegram of Howard before falling in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3). Kernagis is 7-1 during the fall.
The main singles draw kicks off with the opening round on Friday, starting at 9:30 a.m. The first round of the main doubles draw will follow singles action.
