Kellen Richbourg's Brace Lifts Field Hockey to CAA Win over Rival Delaware

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Kellen Richbourg scored twice and William & Mary field hockey picked up a huge CAA win over rival Delaware, 2-1, on Friday evening at Busch Field.

Tied a one in the latter stages of the fourth quarter, Richbourg found space at the top of the circle. After receiving a pass from senior Pyper Friedman, the Tribe midfielder touched to the top of the circle and skipped a shot into the left-side boards to put the Green and Gold back in front 2-1 with just 6:33 left.

Graduate student goalkeeper Maddie George and the Tribe defense made the advantage stand up. George made four saves in the game's final six minutes. UD pulled its goalkeeper with just over four minutes remaining, and the Green and Gold fended off two penalty corners and six total shots in securing the victory.

Richbourg's brace was the first of her career and brought her career goal scoring total to seven. The assist on the game-winner was Friedman's first of the season but 14th of her Tribe career. It moved her into the top 20 in school history in assists to No. 18 on the career list.

W&M took a lead 10 minutes into the game on Richbourg's first goal of the season. Off a penalty corner, the Green and Gold senior collected a blocked shot along the right side of the penalty area and beat UD goalkeeper Cecile van Eijck to the far post for the game's first tally.
