WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis went a perfect 9-0 in the first round of the top singles flight in the Universal Tennis College Circuits event at the Mackesy Tennis Center on Friday evening.
Graduate students
Bill Duo and
Konstantinos Raptis; juniors
Alexander Karman and
Sean Joseph; sophomore
Albert Hansen; and freshmen
Oliver Hague and
Nikita Bortnichek all won in straight sets in the 32-player first round to open the event. Duo, Hague and Karman all remained undefeated on the young season in singles action at 4-0, while Raptis picked up his team-leading sixth singles win of the fall.
Graduate students
Alexandre Leblanc and
Satchel Benn both needed three sets, but rallied for singles wins over Wake Forest foes in Martin Mazev (1-6, 6-3, 6-1) and Vikas Deo (3-6, 7-5, 7-5), respectively.
The second round of the top singles flight begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Mackesy Tennis Center with the quarterfinals to follow. Doubles action and consolation singles play will happen on Saturday as well.
