WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –William & Mary volleyball continues its non-conference schedule on the road at the Bucknell Invitational with three weekend matches against Bucknell, Cornell and Niagara.
All three matches will be available for streaming on ESPN+ and live stats will be broadcast for each event.
RYAN ADAMS' RETURN
In his first year at the helm of the W&M program, Head Coach
Ryan Adams returns to Bucknell where he previously served as an assistant coach. Adams, who recorded his first win as Tribe head coach on opening day of 2023, spent three seasons as an assistant coach with Bucknell volleyball in 2014-15 and 2018.
A NATIONAL SCALE
After four matches, the Tribe is ranked top-10 nationally in two team statistics and top-50 in six - attacks (No. 7, 544), blocks (No. 8, 37), aces (No. 13, 31), kills (No. 21, 176), assists (No. 32, 156) and digs (No. 50, 190).
The Tribe ranks No. 7 nationally and second in the CAA in team total attacks with 544 in their first 4 matches.
Sarah Callender is in the top 50 nationally, at No. 43, in attacks with 129.
Clocking in at No. 8 nationally and leading the CAA, W&M has 37.0 team total blocks.
Olivia Esposito leads the charge with 21 blocks, earning a No. 11 individual national ranking. Esposito also sits at No. 32 in blocks per set with 1.62.
MEET THE OPPONENTS
Bucknell – The Tribe will take on the host school for the first time in nearly 25 years in their lone Friday match. The only prior meeting between the programs is a W&M victory in straight sets in November 1998.
Cornell – Cornell opens their season at the Bucknell Invitational. Last season, they produced a 6-17 campaign, going 4-10 in the Ivy League. The Tribe trail the Big Red in the all-time series 1-3. At neutral sites, Cornell leads the all-time series 1-2. Playing their four previous matches over three states (N.J., N.Y. and Va.) this is the first time the programs will meet in Pennsylvania.
Niagara – William & Mary will meet the Purple Eagles for the first time in their matchup Saturday.
FAST FORWARD
The Tribe will wrap up their non-conference schedule on the road at the Bobcat Invitational in Athens, Ohio. A pair of matches against NC State at 10:30 a.m. and UTEP at 4 p.m. will open the tournament on Friday and the Tribe will face host Ohio at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
W&M will host their home opener the following weekend on Sept. 16-17 against College of Charleston to begin conference play.
