Tribe Falls in NCAA Regional at No. 6 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Fresh off its 28th Colonial Athletic Association title, William & Mary women's tennis made its 25th appearance in the NCAA Championship on Friday evening, competing in the Durham Regional. On the national stage against one of the top teams in the country, the Tribe suffered a 4-0 setback to No. 6-seed Duke to close out the season at the Ambler Tennis Center.

The day began with the CAA announcing its award winners and the Tribe once against led the way. Sophomore Hedda Gurholt was named the CAA Player of the Year, while head coach Jessica Giuggioli received the league's coach of the year honor for the second-straight year. W&M led the league with six All-CAA selections.

How It Happened
- With a doubles lineup featuring a pair of nationally-ranked teams, the Blue Devils (23-4) took a 1-0 lead with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
- In singles action, Duke picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 to increase its lead to 3-0.
- At No. 3, graduate student Sofiya Kuzina jumped out to a break advantage over No. 42-ranked Emma Jackson in the first set. The Blue Devil player rallied to take to the opening set and led in the second when the match was abandoned with the team result decided.
- After being named to the All-CAA First Team earlier in the day, senior Elisa Van Meeteren battled tough with No. 62-ranked Georgia Drummy, before dropping the opening set, 6-4. Drummy led in the second before the match was abandoned with the team result decided.
- The No. 6-ranked player in the country Chloe Beck clinched the match for Duke. After dropping the opening set, recently named CAA Player of the Year Hedda Gurholt battled tough in the second before falling to Beck 6-4. The setback snapped a nine-match win streak for Gurholt.
- W&M closed out the year at 15-6, while Duke advanced to the regional final against UCLA, who downed Texas Tech, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
