WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis dropped its Colonial Athletic Association Quarterfinal to Monmouth, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
How It Happened
- With four quarterfinal matches on Friday and the tournament forced indoors due to inclement weather in the Williamsburg area, the match started with singles and doubles would follow if necessary.
- Monmouth (18-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with straight-sets wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
- Graduate student Joseph Brailovky jumped out to a set advantage at the No. 2 spot, taking the first from Dmitry Bezborodov, 6-3. The Hawk player rallied to win the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), and the match was abandoned before the third set started when the team result was decided.
- The Hawks extended its lead to 3-0 with a victory at No. 6.
- The Tribe (9-11) mounted a rally though. Along with Brailovsky winning the opening set at No. 2, graduate student
Bill Duo fought back to win the second set from Monmouth's Gabriel Busato, 6-3, at No. 5. The players were on serve through five gams in the third when the match was abandoned.
- At No. 4, graduate student
Andres Silva fought all the way back from down 5-2 in the second. He won four-straight games, fighting off multiple match points to force a tiebreaker. Monmouth's Alexander Zuckerman stemmed the tide and won the final two points of the breaker to clinch the match for the Hawks.
