Men's Tennis Set to Host 2023 CAA Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary men's tennis hosts the 2023 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Championship at the Mackesy Tennis Center, April 27-30.

As the No. 2 seed, the Tribe earned a bye in the opening round. The Green and Gold faces No. 7 Monmouth, who downed No. 10 Hampton, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon, at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 28. The semifinals are set for noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday with the championship to follow on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
Admission is free to all matches at the CAA Men's Tennis Championship.
 
News and Notes
- The Tribe is 9-10 on the season, including a 3-1 mark in CAA play. W&M notched victories over No. 3 Elon (4-2), No. 4 Drexel (4-3) and No. 10 Hampton (6-1).
- The Green and Gold won three in a row, including the 4-2 win over Elon, before suffering a setback to No. 38 VCU to close out the regular season.
- Graduate student Joseph Brailovsky leads the Tribe with 20 singles wins on the year, going 9-7 in dual-match action at No. 2.
- Senior George Davis holds down the No. 1 singles position and owns seven wins at the top singles spot. Davis has been named All-CAA in both singles and doubles each of the last two years, including garnering first team honors in 2022.
-  On March 21, Davis earned CAA Player of the Week honors after rallying to clinch the Tribe's win over Gardner-Webb with a victory at the No. 1 position.
- Sophomore Sean Joseph worked his way up to the No. 3 singles position, going 2-0 at the spot over the Tribe's last two matches. He is 8-5 in dual-match singles play.
- The Tribe has captured the doubles point in three of its last four matches. Graduate student Bill Duo and Davis lead the way at 11-7 overall with six wins at the top spot. The Tribe's No. 2 tandem is Brailovsky and sophomore Alexander Karman and the pair is 5-2 on line two.  
- Duo and Davis earned the CAA Doubles Team of the Week honor on two occasions this season. The pair garnered the distinction on March 7 after a win over James Madison and a second time on April 4 following the Tribe's victories over Navy and Elon.
 
CAA Tournament Notes
- The Tribe garnered the No. 2 spot in the league tournament for the ninth time. W&M was also the No. 2 seed in 2013, 2008, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, and 1999. The Tribe advanced to the championship in six of those previous eight times as the No. 2 seed, including its most recent time in the tournament as the two seed in 2013. 
- The Green and Gold is 13-7 all-time as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, including winning the championship in 2005.
- W&M will meet either No. 7 Monmouth for the first time in the CAA Tournament. The Hawks joined the CAA prior to the 2022-23 season. The Tribe is 6-0 all-time against the No. 7 seed.
- As a player, W&M head coach Jeff Kader led W&M to upset wins over No. 62 Old Dominion and No. 38 VCU in the CAA Semifinals and Championship, respectively, as a senior in 2005. It marked the Tribe's first CAA title since 1990. Kader went a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 in doubles on his way to being named the most outstanding performer of the championship. He upset the No. 20-ranked player in the country from VCU and the No. 33-ranked player from ODU during the championship run.
- In total, W&M has advanced to the championship match on 13 occasions (1991, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021), winning league crowns in 2005 and 2015. In total, the Green and Gold has won four CAA titles with its championships in 1987 and 1990 coming via the team points format.
