Women's Tennis Continues Winning Ways Dispatching Pacific

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary won its second straight in opening a six-match homestand, topping Pacific, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
 
W&M (8-4) took the doubles point and received singles victories from sophomores Hedda Gurholt and Emma Fernald, senior Alisia Manolescu and freshman Emma Pell.
 
How It Happened
- The Tribe captured the doubles point for the eighth time this season with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Senior Elisa Van Meeteren and Fernald gave W&M an early lead with a 6-2 win over Tomi Main and Alexis Sam on line two. The duo won its seventh match and improved to 2-1 at No. 2.
- Gurholt and Pell picked up their second victory in a row at No. 3, this time clinching the point. The tandem topped Danielle Zamora and Megan Carmichael, 6-4, to up its season mark to 3-1.
- Fernald and Manolescu picked up quick wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to increase the Tribe lead 3-0. Manolescu dropped just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Zamora on line five for her third win in a row. She improved to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in dual-match action. Fernald picked up her 12th victory, rolling past Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4.
- Gurholt clinched the Tribe victory with a straight-sets win at the top spot. The Tribe sophomore won her second-straight and 13th overall on the year, downing Klara Kosan, 6-4, 6-3. Gurholt ran her mark to 8-3 at No. 1.
- Pell rounded out the Tribe victory with a pair of tiebreaker wins over Sam at the No. 6 position. The Tribe rookie won her third-straight, upping her record to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in dual-match action.
 
Up Next
The Tribe continues it homestand on Sunday morning when it hosts Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware. The match carries a 10 a.m. start time at the Mackesy Tennis Center, weather permitting.
