Riley Casey Earns Second CAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. -  For the second time this season, graduate student Riley Casey was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The Tribe doubled up on conference awards this week, with freshman Kayla Rolph capturing co-Rookie of the Week accolades.

One of the top scorers in the nation, Casey averaged 25 points, five assists, and two steals per game over the weekend, lifting a shorthanded Green and Gold squad to a pair of road wins against Elon and North Carolina A&T. The back-to-back w's extended the Tribe's current win streak to four as the squad has won eight of its last nine contests.

Without two of her fellow starters in the lineup against the Phoenix on Friday, Casey easily stepped up to the metaphorical plate. The Tennessee native scored a game-high 30 points, the fifth time this season she's hit 30-plus, dished out a career-high seven assists, and added two steals in the 84-74 OT victory. In the extra frame, she scored or assisted on 13 of the Tribe's 15 points.

Casey followed up with another standout performance in a 79-64 win over N.C. A&T on Sunday afternoon, racking up 20 points to go along with three assists and two steals. The effort marked the tenth time this season she's scored 20 or more and her fifth straight game in double digits.

The only W&M player to start all 24 of the team's games, Casey sits second in the CAA in scoring (17.8 ppg), second in 3-point field goal percentage (.394), and third in free throw percentage (.871). She ranks top-20 nationally in 3-pointers per game (2.79) and is 22nd in total 3-pointers this season (67).

William & Mary returns to Kaplan Arena on Friday when it hosts Towson as part of this season's Play4Kay Game. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to join the Tribe as it partners with the Kay Yow Foundation in its efforts to support women battling all cancers.
