RICHMOND, Va. - Following back-to-back games that saw her set multiple career highs and notch her first two collegiate starts, freshman
Kayla Rolph can add another bullet point to her list of reasons why this weekend was so good—she's been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week.
It's the first conference honor for Rolph, but the second for the Tribe this week as the Green and Gold doubled up on CAA accolades, with
Riley Casey earning Player of the Week honors as well.
Making her first start for W&M at Elon on Friday evening, Rolph took advantage of the opportunity and then some. The Great Falls, Va. native scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a career-best three buckets from behind the arc. In 36 minutes of work against the Phoenix, her most on the hardwood this season, Rolph turned the ball over just once.
She followed up with another strong performance in W&M's 79-64 victory at N.C. A&T on Sunday afternoon. Scoring 11 points on 4-of-5 from the floor, Rolph also racked up a career-high three steals. The effort marked the third time she's crested double digits and the first in back-to-back games.
William & Mary returns to Kaplan Arena on Friday when it hosts Towson as part of this season's
Play4Kay Game. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to join the Tribe as it partners with the Kay Yow Foundation in its efforts to support women battling all cancers. For more information or to make a pledge to the National Free Throw Challenge,
