RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Nikita Bortnichek led the way for William & Mary men's tennis at the River City Open, going undefeated in singles action. As a team, the Tribe posted an 8-4 singles mark over the three-day event at the Country Club of Virginia.
 
Bortnichek pick up a trio of singles wins, one each day, to run his season ledger to 6-3. He topped SMU's Alex Yang, 6-3, 7-6 (5), on Friday, before posting three-set wins on Saturday and Sunday. He downed Old Dominion's Maxime Mareshal-Hay, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (2), before upending Georgetown's Akira Morgenstern, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.
 
Junior Alexander Karman and sophomore Albert Hansen both went 2-1 in singles action. Karman defeated SMU's Alex Stafford, 6-3, 6-1, and Georgetown's Derek Raskopf, 6-3, 6-4, to improve to 6-3. Hansen ran his season mark to 5-4 with unblemished 6-0, 6-0 victories over SMU's Liam Sunkel and Georgetown's Burke Pablo.
 
On the opening of the event, the Tribe swept its four singles matches with SMU. Along the Bortnichek, Karman and Hansen's wins, freshman Oliver Hague notched his eighth singles triumph of the fall, knocking off the Mustangs' Callaway Clark, 6-4, 7-5.
 
In Friday's doubles action, Bortnichek and Hansen posted a 6-1 victory over Yang and Sunkel of SMU. The Tribe pair is 6-3 on the year.

The Tribe returns to action at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships, Oct. 11-16. Liberty University will host the event.
