Men's Soccer Earns Point on Road, Draws UNCW 0-0

WILMINGTON, N.C.— William & Mary men's soccer fought UNCW for 90 minutes in an intense CAA matchup Saturday night, finishing in a 0-0 tie with each side earning a point.

William & Mary (2-6-3, 1-3-2 CAA) would dictate the match in the opening half and made sure UNCW (5-3-3, 1-2-3 CAA) knew it right off the bat.

Aidan Morrison let off a threatening shot 100 seconds into the game, but the chance was saved by the Seahawks goalkeeper.

As the opening half wore on, the W&M backline stood tall to thwart out any and all chances for UNCW. The Seahawks were unable to muster a single shot attempt in the first 45 minutes.

Despite controlling the play, the Tribe were unable to get a go-ahead goal in the first half. Ian Krajna, Evan Rabush and Lucas Caldas all got shots on-frame, but the UNCW goalie answered the call in each instance.

The most threatening chance didn't find the target however, with Krajna taking a screaming shot that just skipped wide in the 37th minute.

The match headed to halftime tied 0-0, with the Tribe getting four of their five shots on goal.

The Green and Gold kept the pressure up in the opening minutes of the second half, with Daniel Salom missing the target high in the 47th minute.

UNCW responded with their first recorded shot in the 53rd minute, building off a counterattack before the attempt went over the head of Cole McNally and the crossbar.

McNally got his first test, albeit not very challenging, in the 56th minute when a long free kick from the Seahawks hopped in the box and into the waiting arms of the W&M keeper.

The middle part of the half was a stalemate, with the teams battling for possession in the midfield while the match remained scoreless.

With a little over 13 minutes left, McNally's number was called again. UNCW threaded a through ball to a streaking attacker, but before he was able to shoot McNally charged in, and with a slide, cleared the ball out of harm's way.

As time wound down the Tribe were awarded three straight corners in the 85th minute and one last chance to break the scoreless tie. The Seahawks backline, as they had all night, bent but didn't break and the game concluded in a scoreless draw.

The second half only featured three total shots, two for UNCW and one for W&M, making the final tally 6-2 in favor of the Tribe.
