WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head men's tennis coach Jeff Kader announced the hiring of Grant Sarver as the program's assistant coach for the 2022-23 season. A Richmond, Va., native, Sarver returns to the Commonwealth after spending last season as the volunteer assistant coach at Cornell University.
 
During his time in Ithaca, N.Y., the Big Red finished the 2021-22 season at 17-8 overall and ranked No. 60 nationally. Cornell was also No. 5 in the ITA Northeast Region and No. 18 in the mid-major rankings.
 
A trio of Big Ren players earned regional singles rankings last season, while Alafia Ayeni capped the year ranked No. 48 in the country and competed in the NCAA Singles Championship. Cornell's top doubles team of Ayeni and Vlad Melnic ended the campaign at No. 25 nationally and also competed in the NCAA Championship. Both players earned All-Ivy League honors in singles and doubles.
 
Sarver served as the volunteer assistant coach at the University of Richmond, in 2020-21, helping the Spiders to the Atlantic-10 Championship match. Four UR players earned all-conference honors, including a pair of first-team picks.
                                      
Outside of his experience as a collegiate coach, Sarver spent time as a teaching pro at the Westwood Club in 2020-21 and the Reis Tennis Center in 2021-22.
 
Sarver played collegiately at Randolph-Macon College. He was a four-year starter at the top of the Yellow Jackets' lineup in both singles and doubles. Sarver was a two-year captain and a two-year All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection. He was 23-8 over his four seasons in ODAC play, including an 8-2 mark at the top post in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
