WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis turned in dominate performance on the opening day of the Tribe Invitational on Saturday. In total, the Tribe went 16-1 across all its matches, including an 8-0 mark in doubles competition.
 
In the All-In Dobules Draw, the Tribe duos of sophomore Hedda Gurholt and Ine Stange as well as seniors Raffaela Alhach and Elisa Van Meeteren went 2-0 to earn a spot in the final against each other on Sunday. Gurholt and Stange picked up wins over power 5 teams from Indiana (Mejic/Hu) and USC (Charney/Rodiloss) in advancing to the finals. Alhach and Van Meeteren did not drop a game in two victories over Towson (Rothfeld/Lawson) and East Carolina Auerswald/Rivera (Auerswald/Rivera).
 
A trio of W&M teams picked up opening rounds wins in the Tribe Draw. The freshman duo of Yaelle Vaissaud and Emma Pell defeated Towson's Assenmacher and Pospischill, 6-2.
 
Alexandra Vesikallio and sophomore Kensie Cricchio also downed a Towson pair of Jacobs and Suchinsky, 6-2. Freshman Emma Fernald and graduate student Sofiya Kuzina picked up a tiebreaker victory over ECU's Hussain and Bachir, 7-6 (3).
 
Senior Alisia Manolescu and junior Julia Monroe won their lone match of the day in the Griffin Doubles Draw, topping ECU's Becker and Madi, 6-3. The duo will play for the flight title on Sunday.
 
The Tribe was 8-1 in singles action with six straight-sets wins. In the Green Draw, Alhach topped Indiana's Mila Mejic, 6-4, 7-5, while Gurholt bounced ECU's Ines Bachir, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Van Meeteren rallied for a three-set win in the Gold Draw. After dropping the first set, 6-2, she came back to upend Kim Auerswald in the final two sets, 6-0, 10-8.
 
A trio of Tribe players posted wins in the Black Draw. Fernald also picked up a come-from-behind three-set win over ECU's Joan Madi, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Vesikallio dropped just two games in downing Antonia Lawson, 6-2, 6-0, while Kuzina posted a 7-5, 6-0 win over Makenna Doyle of Virginia Tech.
 
In the White Draw, Vaissaud picked up her first win as a member of the Tribe, topping ECU's Rivera Ortiz, 6-4, 7-6 (1). Cricchio notched a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Towson's Erin Gray.
 
The Tribe Invitational wraps up on Sunday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. Action gets underway with the final two rounds of singles, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The last round of doubles will begin at 3 p.m.
