WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Karai Lockley has been named the new senior associate athletics director for finance and administration for William & Mary Athletics.  Lockley, currently the senior associate athletic director for business and finance and the senior woman administrator at Florida A&M University, will begin her tenure at W&M on Sept. 25.

In announcing Lockley's appointment, Director of Athletics Brian Mann said, "Karai is a wonderful addition to our senior staff.  She has a wealth of experience, both at the collegiate and corporate levels, and she has demonstrated an outstanding ability to manage the comprehensive and complex finances for a Division I athletics program.  She will have an immediate and positive impact on Tribe Athletics!"

As the de facto chief financial officer for Athletics,  Lockley will oversee the department's finances and business operations, and be responsible for human resources, equipment and facilities.

"I am very excited, as well as grateful, for the opportunity to join the team at William & Mary, which is one of the country's premier public institutions.  From my first interview I knew I wanted the chance to work with Brian Mann and his staff.   I can't wait to get my feet planted on campus and see how we can build upon some of the areas for which I am responsible," said Lockley, who is a native of Rahway, N.J.

Prior to Florida A&M, Lockley spent five years in Athletics at the University of Miami, where she was responsible for budgets for football and women's basketball, academics, compliance and the marketing and communications team.  She also served on the department's strategic planning committee, leaving Miami as the associate director of business operations and purchasing.

Before Miami, Lockley was the assistant business manager of student services for Georgia State Athletics, her first job in intercollegiate athletics.  She joined Georgia State after 13 years in a variety of accounting and finance jobs in the private sector.

As Lockley settles in at Tribe Athletics, she will encounter lots of firsts but there will be one area of familiarity.  She is a 2000 graduate of Hampton University, a new conference mate for W&M and the place where she "spent the best four years of my life" as she earned a degree in business management.  Lockley also earned a Master's degree in Sports Administration from Georgia State University in 2015.

Lockley is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports, Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, College Athletic Business Management Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
