WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer wrapped up the exhibition portion of the schedule with another offensive explosion, rolling to a 4-1 win over American, who was picked to finish second in the Patriot League.
Four different Tribe players found the back of the net in the victory, while freshman
Lucas Caldas tallied a goal and an assist. Senior preseason All-CAA selections
Alexander Levengood and
Diba Nwegbo and freshman
Webb Kosich each scored as well in the win.
W&M struck first just 17 minutes into the contest on Levengood's third goal of the preseason. The Tribe forward collected a pass from junior
Joe Core just inside the top of the 18-yard box and finished into the left side of the frame past a diving Lorenzo Gordon.
The visitors answered less than a minute later on a goal from Robbie Matei.
Nwegbo gave the Tribe the lead for good with a rocket in the 63rd minute. The senior forward collected the ball in the midfield and dribbled toward goal up the middle of the pitch before ripping a shot inside the left post from 25 yards out.
Caldas and Koisch combined for the third goal of the game. Caldas took the ball toward the left side of the end line, before crossing the ball to the middle of the box. It deflected off the glove of AU goalkeeper Dominic Dominguez, before Kosich finished to the center of an empty net.
The teams played an extra 15 minutes following the initial 90 minutes and the Tribe added a fourth tally. This time, Caldas found of the back of the net, finishing inside the penalty area to the right post off a pass from senior
Nathan Messer less than 10 minutes in the third period.
