Women's Tennis Set for the CAA Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary heads to Elon for the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Tennis Championship which is set for April 29-May 1 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Tribe has owned the CAA Championship through the years, winning 26 of the 36 all-time league titles. 

The Tribe is the No. 2 seed in the event and opens play against No. 7 Towson in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 29. The semifinals are set for Saturday with the championship to follow on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Admission is free to all matches at the CAA Women's Tennis Championship.
  
Tribe News and Notes
- The Tribe enters the CAA Championship on a hot streak, having won four straight, including three in CAA play, to wrap up the regular season at 10-8.
- The Green and Gold won five of its six CAA matches this season. W&M won at UNCW, 6-1, and Towson, 7-0, while knocking off Drexel and Elon at home by matching 5-2 scores. The Tribe faced No. 3 seed Delaware at Towson and picked up a 4-3 win. W&M's lone setback was a nailbiter at top-seeded Charleston, 4-3.
- The Tribe is the No. 2 seed for the third time and first since 2010. W&M advanced to the championship match as the second seed in both 2006 and 2010.
 - The Tribe faces Towson in the league tourney for the fifth time. W&M is 7-0 all-time against the Tigers, including a 7-0 win on the road earlier this season. The Tribe last met Towson in the CAA Tournament in 2018 when it posted a 4-0 triumph.
- Senior Mila Saric, the reigning CAA Player of the Year, leads the way for the Tribe at 24-5 in singles action. Her winning % of 82.7 ranks 10th on the program's single-season list. She is 14-3 at the No. 1 position and has won six in a row.
- Saric has been ranked in the ITA National Singles Rankings for the last two months. She owns a career-high ranking of No. 81 and is currently ranked No. 121 in the latest poll released on Wednesday.
- For her career, Saric ranks sixth in W&M history in singles winning % at 72.3. She owns 68 career singles wins over her Tribe career. Saric has also been dominant against CAA competition in her career, amassing a 20-2 record.
- Saric has been named the CAA Singles Player of the Week on three occasions this season and nine times in her career.
- On Tuesday, Saric and freshman Emma Fernald were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week after posting a win at the No. 2 position against Elon. The duo is 4-1 on the year.
- Freshman Hedda Gurholt has held down the No. 2 singles post for the Green and Gold. She ranks second on the team with 21 singles wins and is 12-6 at the top two positions in dual-match play. Gurholt was named the CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 9 after picking up wins over West Virginia and Norfolk State in the Tribe's season-opening doubleheader.
- Freshmen Ine Stange and Emma Fernald enter the CAA Tournament on a roll. Both have won three in a row. Fernald is third on the team in singles wins at 18-9 overall, while Stange is 13-8.
- As a team, the Tribe owns a dual-match singles winning % of 62.2.
- In CAA play, junior Raffaela Alhach is a perfect 5-0, including two wins since moving up to the No. 3 spot. She owns 16 singles wins on the year.
- The Tribe has won the doubles point in 11 of its 18 matches, including each of the last two contests.
- Alhach and junior Elisa Van Meeteren hold down the Tribe's top doubles position. The duo is 8-5 on the season as a pair.
 
Dominating the CAA
W&M has a long history of dominating CAA competition, and more importantly the CAA Championship. The Tribe has won 26 of the CAA's 36 all-time women's tennis championships and finished as the runner-up on seven other occasions.
 
Since the league adopted its current, head-to-head team format for the CAA Championship in 1995, the Green and Gold is 63-9 (.875) at the event. Overall since the first season of CAA tennis, the Tribe is 151-23 (.868) all-time versus league opponents. In matches with current CAA teams, the Green and Gold owns a 48-5 (.906) all-time record.
