ELON, N.C. – In typical William & Mary and Elon fashion, the Tribe and Phoenix locked horns in a classic battle in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
 
Unfortunately for the Tribe, Elon (15-8) was able to hold off a Green and Gold comeback and eliminated the top-seeded Tribe, 4-2.
 
After Elon jumped out to a 2-0 lead, taking a hotly-contested doubles point and a win at No. 3 singles, the Tribe (10-8) started its comeback. Seniors Jack Kelly and Joseph Brailovsky posted wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to draw the Green and Gold even at two.
 
Kelly topped the Phoenix's Camilo Pounce, 6-4, 6-3, on line four to get the Tribe on the board. It was Kelly's seventh win of the year and fourth at No. 4.
 
Brailovsky rallied from an early first-set hole to win going away at No. 5. After surging to a 7-5 win in the first set over Chung-Han Tsai, the Tribe senior dominated the second, 6-1, to tie the match at two. Brailovsky moved to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in dual-match competition.
 
The balance of the match came down to No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6. After the Phoenix won the first set at all three posts, junior George Davis answered with a second set win, 6-4, over Elon's Kyle Frankel and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third at the top spot.
 
The Phoenix, though, put the match away with victories at No. 2 and No. 6 to cement a spot in the CAA Championship match on Sunday.
