WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary went ahead in the first inning and never looked back, leading the entire way in a 9-6 win over Princeton Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park. Five Tribe players had multi-hit games as the Green and Gold knocked 15 hits in the victory.
Â
Jack Cone earned his second win of the season, allowing just one run and striking out four over 3.0 innings pitched.
Mike Weidinger gave up one run and struck out five working the middle innings, and
Matt Howat earned a one out save, his second of the season.
Â
After a quick first inning from Cone, the Tribe wasted no time getting on the board.
Matt Thomas doubled to right center and would come home on a
David Hogarth single to center. William & Mary tacked on another in the second as
Joe Delossantos doubled and scored on
Phil Conti's single to right.Â
Â
Princeton would get a run back in the third via a Brendan Cumming home run but Cone settled in and prevented further damage to preserve the 2-1 edge. The Tribe would extend the lead back to two as
Cole Ragone rocketed a double to left and later scored on Thomas' second hit of the day. The Tigers would once again cut the lead to one manufacturing a run in the fifth.Â
Â
Once again the Tribe had an answer in the inning's bottom half as Cone took a pitch off the elbow to land on first.
Max Winters would single and Cone scored on a double by Delossantos to make it 4-2. The home team extended the lead with a four-run sixth inning on three hits. Winters provided an RBI single and Ragone drove in a pair of runners with his second double of the game.Â
Â
The Tribe tacked on a run in the ninth and Nadir Lewis hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to cut the Tribe's lead in half before Howat came in and shut the door to secure the 9-6 win.Â
Â
Up Next: Next up for the Tribe is a midweek tilt with Georgetown at Plumeri Park Tuesday afternoon.Â
