GREENVILLE, N.C. – The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its non-conference slate with a 16-6 setback at East Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
Although the contest was tied at 5-5 early in second quarter, ECU (7-5) scored 11 unanswered goals to pull away for the victory.
Tribe Standouts
Senior
Belle Martire and freshman
Sam Van Gieson led the Tribe (4-6) offensively with two goals apiece, while freshman
Serena Jacobs posted a team-high three points (1g, 2a).
Sophomore
Caroline Hertzberg totaled a team-high five draw controls, while sophomore
Kathleen Cozzi recorded a team-best four ground balls.
Inside the Numbers
ECU outshot W&M, 30-21, which included a 23-15 margin in shots on goals.
W&M owned a 15-13 advantage in ground balls, while the Pirates held a 12-11 edge in draw controls and committed five fewer turnovers (12-17).
The Opposition
Leah Bestany led ECU with six points (5g, 1a), while Megan Tryniski (3g) and Nicole Legar (2g, 2a) also provided offensive production.
Flynn Reed posted a game-high six draw controls, while goalie Brynn Knight totaled nine saves and a .600 save percentage.

The contest marked the first meeting between W&M and ECU … Despite the loss, W&M owns a 25-5 all-time record versus teams currently in the Big South …
