CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - William & Mary baseball fell to UVA 12-0 Tuesday afternoon in Charlottesville.
Joe Delossantos had a pair of hits for the Tribe, while fifth year seniors
Justin Pearson and
Jacob Haney would both come in and each work a scoreless relief frame for the Green and Gold.
For the first time in 2022, the Tribe failed to score in the first frame, and Virginia wasted no time jumping out to a first inning lead. Three straight singles and a passed ball would plate a pair of UVA runs before Tribe starter
Rojo Prarie got a pair of strikeouts and a flyout to limit the damage to 2-0.
The teams exchanged a scoreless second, and after getting the first two batters in the third, Prairie would allow two straight hits to bring on relliever
Mike Weidinger. Weidinger was able to get a strikeout to strand the runners and keep the score at 2-0. The freshman lefty worked a clean fourth courtesy of two punchouts and a terrific catch by
Jack Cone.
After the Tribe could not muster any offense in the fifth, Virginia extended the lead with a seven-run bottom half highlighted by an Ethan Anderson three-run homer.
The Green and Gold's best chance came in the sixth when
Tyler Solomon and Delossantos would lead off the frame with back to back singles. The Cavaliers would plate three-more on three hits in the bottom of the sixth. Delossantos would single again in the top half of the eighth.
Up Next: Next weekend the Tribe will host Rutgers, Lafayette, and Princeton as part of the Central Virginia Classic.
