RICHMOND, VA. - For the second straight month, the Tribe's
Sophia Heilen has been named the CAA Rookie Swimmer of the Month as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. The award comes on the heels of Heilen's record-setting performance at the Toyota U.S. Open last weekend.
Heilen enjoyed a phenomenal November, beginning with a sweep of the fly events in a dual meet at Delaware. At the WVU Invitational, Heilen swam a 2:02.80 time in the 200 IM to set a William & Mary freshman record.
The next day, the freshman swam a 53.03 to smash the William & Mary record in the 100 fly and earned another program record for a freshman with a time of 1:02.43 in the 100 breaststroke. Sophia capped off the weekend with another freshman record, this time a 1:57.03 time in the 200 fly. Her times in the 100 and 200 fly earned her a spot in the Toyota U.S. Open.
Last weekend in Greensboro, Heilen set a new program record with a long course time of 1:00.96 in the 100 fly, taking nearly a full second off of her prelim time. Later in the weekend, she swam a 2:18.98 in the B Final of the 200 fly.
