Despite trouble on the offensive end from the jump, William & Mary hung with Old Dominion for a little more than one half of basketball on Tuesday night. But as the clock wound down in Norfolk the Monarchs pulled away, defeating the Tribe 59-43.

W&M shot 18% in the second half and ended up with its first loss of the season. Graduate student Sydney Wagner led the Tribe with 12 points, while sophomore Madison Magee had another strong night off the bench with 10 points on 2-of-2 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

The game was tied at 25 a minute into the third quarter, but ODU began taking control with an 8-0 run. W&M (2-1) cut it to five with 4:25 remaining in the period, but the Monarchs answered once again, closing with a 9-2 spurt to take a 42-30 lead into the final frame.

ODU (2-1) began the final quarter with a 3-pointer by Jatyjia Jones and a jumper by Jada Duckett to take a 47-30 lead.

The Tribe shot 25.5% for the game and was 3-of-13 from the 3-point arc. Free throws kept W&M in the game for a while as it shot 16-of-21 to the Monarchs' 9-of-24. But the Tribe went 3-of-11 from the field in the fourth quarter.

ODU outrebounded William & Mary 47-32, and 19-8 on the offensive end. The Monarchs outscored the Tribe in the paint 32-14.

William & Mary will wrap up a three-game road swing next Monday at George Mason. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
