Tribe Topped In Four Sets

Box Score TOWSON, MD. - William & Mary fell in four sets to Towson Sunday afternoon in Maryland. The Green and Gold took the second set, but fell to the 22-1 Tigers in four for the second straight afternoon. The Tribe fell to 6-6 in league play and 11-9 overall. 
 
Taylor Burrell led the team with 10 kills, while Eleanor Stothoff added nine. Amy Schwem led the Tribe with 18 assists, Emma Minnick added 16. 
 
Defensively, Anna Porter provided 18 digs over the four sets and Ryann Love led the Tribe with five blocks to go with six kills. Sabrina Malcom added three blocks of her own in the contest.
 
Towson led all the way in a 25-17 first set win. Minnick assisted on five of the Tribe's nine kills, three each by Burrell and Ferguson, but William & Mary had no answer for a Tiger offense that hit .467 with 18 kills in the opening set. 
 
William & Mary responded winning four of the opening five points in the second frame behind a kill and a block from Malcolm. Ferguson's fourth kill of the afternoon would give the Tribe a 9-3 edge and prompt a Towson timeout. Six digs from Porter and a pair of blocks from Ryann Love held Towson to a .059 hitting percentage in a 25-20 Tribe win. Burrell added the offense with five of the team's 13 kills in set two. 
 
The Tribe jumped on Towson again, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead in the third. However, Towson roared back to take a 25-16 decision in the third behind a dominant .500 hitting percentage. 
 
Towson rushed out to an early lead in the fourth, but the Tribe would rally to close the gap before the Tigers closed out a 25-23 fourth set to earn a 3-1 victory over William & Mary. 
 
The Tribe will return home next weekend for the final two matches in Kaplan Arena of the 2022 season. William & Mary will face Delaware Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with senior festivities prior to Sunday's match.
