Tye Freeland Honored as CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary standout safety Tye Freeland was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Defensive Player of the Week following a tremendous performance in the Tribe's 44-24 victory at Towson.

Freeland shares this week's honor with Richmond defensive end Jeremiah Grant.

The award marks the third time this season in which a W&M player has garnered the league's top defensive honor, as linebacker John Pius and cornerback Jalen Jones also earned the distinction.

Freeland totaled a team-high 11 tackles (eight solo) with three forced fumbles and a TFL in the lopsided win at Towson. The three forced fumbles are the most recorded in a game by any player in the nation (FCS) this season.

Although he has played in just three games this season due to injury, Freeland has registered 17 tackles, 2.0 TFL, a sack, three forced fumbles and three PBU.

With a 6-1 record, W&M is off to its best start since 2009, while it remains undefeated on the road, as its 4-0 mark away from Williamsburg matches the best start in school history.

The No. 12/13 Tribe will return to action when it hosts No. 22/19 Rhode Island at Zable Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at TribeAthletics.com.
