Men's Tennis Advances Two Doubles Teams to Regional Quarterfinal

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis advanced a pair of teams to the quarterfinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Championships over the weekend.
 
The Tribe tandem of senior George Davis and graduate student Bill Duo as well as the pair of graduate students Joseph Brailovsky and Andres Silva each won two matches in the main Gold Doubles Draw to earn spots in the quarterfinals.
 
Davis and Duo opened up with a nationally-ranked win, upsetting the No. 28-ranked Virginia pair of Inaki Montes de la Torre and Ryan Goetz, 8-6. The Cavalier duo was also the tournament's No. 3 seed. The Tribe pair followed with an 8-3 win over Richmond's Daniel Kliebhan and William Karpinski in the round of 16. The duo's run came to an end in the quarterfinals to the VCU team of Rayane Stable and Matisse Bobichon, 8-4. Davis and Duo are 5-2 on the year.
 
Brailovsky and Silva opened up with an 8-4 win over ODU's Nicola Vidal and Francois Le Tallec, before knocking off the draw's No. 4 seeded Liberty team of Josh Wilson and Christiaan Worst, 8-7 (5), in the round of 16. The No. 7-seeded Virginia Tech team of Alberto Orso and Ryan Fishback halted Brailovsky and Silva's run in the tournament with an 8-5 win in the quarterfinals. The Tribe pair owns four wins on the year.
 
In singles, Brailovsky won a trio of matches in the Silver Draw to earn a spot in the main Gold Draw. He opened up with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Temple's Thibault Frumholz. Brailovsky followed with back-to-back three-set wins over Richmond's William Karpinski, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, and Old Dominion's Jakob Cadonau, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1, to advance to the next draw. His run in the championship came to a close at the hands of No. 2 seeded Chris Rodesch, who is also ranked No. 7 nationally, 6-3, 7-6 (3), in the Gold Draw first round.
 
Brailovsky wrapped up play with a 6-2, 6-2 over ODU's  Cosme Rolland de Ravel in the consolation draw. He leads the Tribe with a 10-5 singles record during the fall.
 
Sophomore Alexander Karman made a nice run to advance to the second round of the Silver Draw. He won a trio of matches in the Bronze Draw to gain a spot in the Silver. He opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win over the draw's No. 4 seed Rithik Sardana of George Mason. Karman won in straight-sets over Radford's Filippo Marangoni, 6-4, 6-4, and Villanova's Joshua Robinson, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Karman continued his strong play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Georgetown's Adhvyte Sharma in the first round of the Silver Draw. He exited the event, falling to the draw's No. 5 seed Sam Bossem of Penn State. Karman owns six wins during the fall season.
 
Freshman Albert Hansen went 3-1 in singles action at the regional. He came up just a win shy of the Silver Draw. He downed VCU's Gray Voelzke, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round, before topping Temple's Henrique Pertiz, 6-1, 6-1. He fell in the final round of the Bronze Draw to Radford's Robert Hagen. Hansen rebounded to claim a come-from-behind three-set win over Richmond's Mark Taranov, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6, in the consolation draw.

The Tribe wrapped up fall action at the ITA Region Championship. They kick off the spring taking part in the Virginia Tech Tournament, Jan. 14-16.
