ANNAPOLIS, Md. – William & Mary sophomore
Hedda Gurholt won the top singles flight to highlight the Tribe's effort at the Navy Blue and Gold Invitational over the weekend.
Along with Gurholt's flight title, seniors
Raffaela Alhach (Flight A) and
Elisa Van Meeteren (Flight A), sophomore
Emma Fernald (Flight B) and freshman
Emma Pell (Flight C) all advanced to the semifinals of their singles draws. In doubles, senior
Alisia Manolescu teamed with Georgetown's Avantika Willy to advance to the finals of Flight A.
Gurholt won all three of her matches to claim Flight A. She opened with a three-set win over Anastasia Lim, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, before downing senior teammate
Raffaela Alhach in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-3. The Tribe sophomore upended Navy's Emily Tannenbaum, 6-4, 6-2, to claim the flight crown. Gurholt is 4-1 in singles action during the fall.
Alhach and Van Meeteren each won two matches to give W&M three of the four semifinalists in Flight A. Alhach won matching 6-3, 6-2 contests over Villanova's Emma Brogan and UNCW's Anna Daniels, before falling to Gurholt in the semifinals. Van Meeteren rallied for three-set wins over both FDU's Alena Kubanova and UNCW's Lauren Gish. She dropped her semifinals match-up with Tannenbaum, 6-1, 6-2. Alhach and Van Meeteren are 6-1 as a pair during the fall season.
Fernald won in straight-sets over Navy's Sylvia Eklund, 6-3, 6-4. In the semifinals, she fell in three sets to the Mids Sia Chaudry, 3-6, 6-0, 10-2.
Pell opened up with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Fairleigh Dickinson's Valentina Silva in Flight C. Like Fernald, she fell in the semifinals in three sets, 4-6, 7-5 10-3, to UNCW's Meredith Taylor.

In doubles, Willy and Manolescu opened with a 6-1 win over UNCW's Merrill and Arli, before taking down Villanova's Brogan/Kornieva in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2). Navy's Tannenbaum and Ribaudo won the flight with a 6-4 win over Willy and Manolescu. The Tribe senior is 4-1 in doubles action this fall.
