Late NC State Goal Dooms Tribe in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. – A late goal handed William & Mary men's soccer a 2-1 loss at NC State on Tuesday evening at Dail Soccer Stadium.

After the Wolfpack (5-5-3, 1-4-1 ACC) broke through on the Conor Kelly goal in the 12th minute, the Tribe answered five minutes later thanks to sophomore Jack Crocco's first career goal.

Graduate student James Bradley and senior Alexander Levengood combined on the left flank with the former driving toward the end line. His low-lining cross made it to the backside of the six where Crocco buried it into the roof of the net.

The Tribe (4-4-6, 2-2-3 CAA) narrowly missed taking the lead in the 23rd minute. Freshman Diogo Branco, who made his first collegiate start, lofted a pass into the 18 from the right flank. Levengood flipped a header toward the near post from eight yards out, but NC State goalkeeper Lucas Hatsios blocked it out of play.

Graduate student goalkeeper Danilo Nikcevic made five saves on the night, including a trio in the second half to keep the match even at one. In the 57th minute, he punched wide a shot from the top of the 18 by Noe Cabezas. Nikcevic made a save on a Luke Hille shot in the 81st minute  and then punched the ball away from Hille on the rebound to keep the match tied.

NC State found the winner in the 87th minute. Calem Tommy drove to the right endline before sending a cross to the middle of the six where Hille was there to head home the Wolfpack's second goal of the match.
