Brian has been a critical leader in Cal Athletics during his time with us in Berkeley. He is an exceptional teammate whose values and vision truly embody what Cal Athletics and UC Berkeley are all about. We are excited for this opportunity for Brian, Hilary and their young son, Russell, and we know that he is truly going to bring excellence to William & Mary. Brian's career and approach fits the special institution and athletics program that is William & Mary. I had the privilege of working with Brian and loved his passion, work ethic and the way he communicates. Brian has the full package to represent William & Mary with class and put his special touch on the athletics department. He was a true student-athlete and understands what it takes for his athletes and coaches to succeed and win championships. I am really excited for Brian and his family and I am ready to watch him lead William & Mary Athletics.

Brian Mann is a mentor, trusted advisor and dear friend. William & Mary is getting one of the best leaders I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I am constantly encouraged by his commitment to serve and connect with those he leads. He cares deeply about people, and he passionately inspires and pursues excellence alongside everyone in his care and beyond. I know Brian will love and serve William & Mary’s community, university, and athletic department at an elite level and with his whole heart.

We welcome Brian Mann and congratulate William & Mary on the news of his hiring as their next Director of Athletics. Brian joins the Colonial Athletics Association at such a critical time for intercollegiate athletics and we welcome his perspectives and leadership that will help frame the CAA’s and William & Mary’s futures. With his experiences as a student-athlete at Dartmouth, and his administrative roles at Rice University and California-Berkeley, Brian Mann is a great fit for Tribe Athletics and will be a great addition to the CAA.

Brian served as our lead development officer and sport administrator in Berkeley. I grew to know him very well. As a former Ivy League quarterback, he truly understands the student athlete experience. He also understands genuine leadership. Brian is very intelligent but also is smart to listen. He has great poise and does an excellent job building consensus within the group. William & Mary is getting a very talented leader who will serve the university mission, the athletic department and all of the people of William & Mary extremely well.

With the selection of Brian Mann as William & Mary's next director of athletics, the university will benefit greatly from his exceptional professional and personal leadership experiences in intercollegiate athletics. He has a wonderful habit of exceeding goals at top institutions, which also is a hallmark at William & Mary.

We’ve made great strides this past year, and I have great confidence that Brian can build on that momentum and provide clear vision and direction that will propel us forward to ensure the Tribe thrives.
