WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis breezed into the Colonial Athletic Association Semifinals thanks to a 4-0 win over Charleston on Friday evening at the Millie West Tennis Facility.
The Tribe (8-5), which won for the sixth time in its last seven matches, claimed the doubles point in just 30 minutes with wins at the bottom two spots In singles, W&M won the opening set at all six singles positions on the way to dominant victories at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to cement the win over the Cougars (8-8).
Seniors
Finbar Talcott (No. 4) and
Chen Ruo (No. 6) collected wins before sophomore
George Davis clinched the match with a win at No. 3.
How It Happened
- The Tribe quickly claimed the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
- On line three, Ruo and Talcott raced out to a 3-0 lead on the way to a 6-3 triumph over Ben Husum and Robby Krick. The Tribe pair evened their season mark at 3-3.

Lev Kazakov and senior
Sebastian Quiros wrapped up the doubles point topping Karl Mosterd and Jake Fraunfelder, 6-2, at No. 2. They improved to 2-0 on the year.
- Talcott quickly increased the Tribe lead to 2-0, making easy work of Karl Mosterd, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4. The Tribe senior improved to 7-6 on the year.
- At No. 6, Ruo trailed 6-5 in the opening set before winning 11 of the final 12 points in the first on the way to a tiebreaker victory, 7-6 (1). He carried the momentum over into the second set, rolling to a 6-1 triumph. Ruo upped his ledger to 3-1 on line six.
- Davis clinched the Tribe victory with a straight-sets win at No. 3. He bounced Ben Husum, 6-1, 6-3, to push his mark to 7-5 overall and 5-2 at No. 3.

The Tribe squares off with No. 2 seed Elon, a 4-0 winner over Drexel in the quarterfinals, in the second CAA Semifinal at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Top seed UNCW meets No. 5 James Madison in the first semifinal at 11 a.m.
William & Mary is the host of the 2021 CAA Tennis Championship at the Millie West Tennis Facility. The event is closed to the general public. Saturday's semifinals and the championship on Sunday will be limited to team and player pass lists to keep the Millie West Tennis Facility within the limits of COVID-19 capacity. If matches are moved indoors due to inclement weather, the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center will be closed to all spectators.
