Men's Tennis Wins its Fifth in Row Topping Richmond, 6-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis rolled to its fifth-straight win, downing instate foe Richmond for the second time this season, 6-1, on Wednesday evening at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
 
The match was originally slated to be played in Richmond but was moved to Williamsburg and the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center due to the threat of inclement weather.
 
W&M wasted little time jumping in front with a dominating doubles performance, claiming the initial point of the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. In singles action, the Tribe won five of six contests in straight sets. Graduate students Brenden Volk (No. 1) and Lev Kazakov (No. 2), seniors Sebastian Quiros (No. 5) and Chen Ruo (No. 6) and sophomore George Davis (No. 3) won in singles action for the Tribe.
 
How it Happened
- The Tribe raced out to a 1-0 lead, winning the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Volk and Davis won their third straight and did not drop a game in topping Daniel Kliebhan and Josh Keitelman, 6-0, at No. 1. The Tribe duo improved to 6-4 on the year.
- The senior pair of Finbar Talcott and Chen Ruo clinched the initial point of the match with a 6-3 win over Alaister Burke and Josh Walsh at No. 3. Talcott and Ruo evened their record at 2-2.
- In singles, Ruo was the first player off the court, winning his second match in a row, 6-1, 6-4, over Burke to extend the Tribe lead to 2-0.
- After a Richmond win at No. 4, Kazakov won his third in a row at No. 2. He upended Kliebhan, 6-2, 6-4, to improve to 6-2 on line two.
- Davis clinched the match with a win at No. 3. The Tribe sophomore defeated Alex Wernink, 6-4, 6-3, upping his season mark to 6-4 overall. Davis is 4-1 at No. 3.
- Volk matched his doubles partner with a win at No. 1. He topped Matt Fernandez, 6-2, 6-4, for his fourth win at No. 1 and fifth overall.
- Quiros rounded out the Tribe win with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Keitelman at No. 5. He improved to 6-5 overall, including a 3-1 mark at No. 5.
 
Up Next
The Tribe wraps up the regular season when it travels to VCU on Thursday. The match carries a 3 p.m. start time.
