Mila Saric, Raffaela Alhach Claim Singles Wins vs #35 Old Dominion

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary junior Mila Saric picked up her second nationally-ranked win of the spring season and sophomore Raffaela Alhach won convincing in singles action but the Tribe suffered a 5-2 setback to No. 35-ranked Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon.
 
Saric posted a three-set win over No. 88-ranked Holly Hutchinson for the second time this season at the top singles position. Alhach, who picked up a doubles win at No. 3 as well, dropped just four games in her win on line five.
 
How It Happened
- Old Dominion (9-4) captured the doubles point with wins at the top two spots.
- At No. 3, the Tribe duo of Elisa Van Meeteren and Alhach posted a 7-5 win over Brooke Pilkington and Alexandra Viktorovich. The sophomore duo won four of the final five games to improve to 2-1 on the year.
- After ODU increased its advantage to 3-0 with wins at No. 3 and No. 6, Alhach got the Tribe (3-8) on the board with a straight-sets win at No. 5. The Tribe sophomore dropped just four total games, winning matching 6-2 sets over Pilkington. Alhach improved to 2-0 on line five.
- The Monarchs secured the match and their seventh-straight victory with a tiebreaker win in the second set at No. 4.
- At No. 1, Saric went to three sets, before outlasting nationally-ranked Holly Hutchinson. After the ODU player won the opening set, 6-3, Saric answered with a 7-5 win in the second. In the third-set super tiebreaker, the Tribe junior won for the second time over the ranked Monarch player, 11-9. Saric ran her win streak to four matches, improving to 7-2 at the top spot.
- Graduate student Jill van den Dungen took No. 51-ranked Yulia Starodubtseva to three sets before falling in a super tiebreaker. After Starodubtseva won the opening set, 6-3, van den Dungen responded with a 6-4 win in the second. The Monarch player pulled out the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-3.
