Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Tribe Comes From Behind To Down Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Finding themselves down 2-1 and facing a second straight defeat, William & Mary volleyball battled back to take the final two thrilling sets in a five-frame classic defeating College of Charleston 3-2 Sunday afternoon. The victory boosted the Tribe's record to 3-1 on the young season.

It was quite the day for Anne Louise Seekford as the junior posted a career-high 16 digs. The Virginian also received 19 serves without committing an error, had three service aces, and six kills. Kate Dedrick continued her early season dominance with 18 kills and Kate Van Houten kept up her magnificent start to the year with 40 assists and 12 digs to go along with a trio of aces and kills.

W&M took a competitive first set 25-23 behind 15 kills from the front line. The Tribe would run into trouble only mustering nine and eight kills respectively over sets two and three. The Cougars would take each of those frames 25-20 and 25-16. However in a show of resilience, the Tribe would battle back capturing a back and fourth set four 25-21 and would never trail in the clinching fifth set eventually claiming victory at 16-14.

Anna Porter once again was rock solid on the back row leading the Tribe with 17 digs. The sophomore received 50 serves and committed just one error during the afternoon. Lauren Merrill put down 11 kills, her fourth straight game with double-digit point-enders. Madeleine Bertz was a factor in the middle hitting .429 and knocking down seven kills in the match. Bertz, Seekford, and Julia Brown each had two blocks in the match and sophomore Gabi Ganley scooped up nine digs.

The Tribe will have next weekend off before hosting UNCW in Kaplan Arena March 19-20.
