ELON, N.C. – William & Mary men's tennis suffered a 5-2 setback in its first Colonial Athletic Association match of the season at Elon on Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened
- Elon (8-1) took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping doubles with victories at all three spots.
- After the Phoenix increased its lead to 2-0 with a victory at the top spot, graduate student
Lev Kazakov won in straight sets at No. 2 to get W&M on the board. He topped Nicholas Condos, 6-4, 6-0, to improve to 2-1 on line two.
- Elon countered with straight-set singles wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the team triumph.
- On line five, junior
Joseph Brailovsky and Nicholas Campbell split tiebreakers in the first two sets. In the third-set super tiebreaker, Brailovsky outlasted his Elon counterpart, 10-5, to improve to 3-2 this season.
