FARMVILLE, Va. – Playing on the road for the third time in its first four games, the William & Mary lacrosse team cruised to 22-16 victory at Longwood on Saturday afternoon.
The Tribe (2-2) utilized a balanced attack, as 11 different players found the back of the cage.
Although W&M trailed 8-7 with less than seven minutes remaining in the opening half, it scored six of the next seven goals to close the stanza.
The Tribe utilized a 5-1 run to start the second half to build an 18-10 advantage and maintained at least a seven-goal cushion during the remainder of the contest.
Tribe Standouts
Belle Martire led W&M with seven points (5g, 2a), a career-high eight draw controls and three ground balls, while
Sabrina Schrader scored four goals on just five shots with six draw controls and two caused turnovers.
London Simonides also came up big with a career-high six points (3g, 3a), while
Lauren Russell posted a hat trick by scoring on all three of her shot attempts.
Inside the Numbers
W&M outshot the Lancers, 34-30, and posted a .647 shooting percentage.
The Tribe held a 14-11 advantage in ground balls and a 22-18 edge in draw controls.
The Opposition
Dana Joss led Longwood (0-5) with six points (5g, 1a), while Taylor Blenckstone (4g, 1a), Emma Johnson (3g, 1a) and Nicole Fordyce (2g, 2a) also contributed offensively. Joss added a team-high six draw controls.

W&M's 22 goals marked the program's highest single-game total since 2015 when it defeated Gardner-Webb, 22-3 … W&M improves to 19-2 in the all-time series against Longwood and is 22-3 versus teams currently in the Big South … W&M is unbeaten against unranked teams this season, as its only losses have come against opponents in the top-20 … Schrader has recorded six draw controls in each of the last two contests and leads the team with 16 this season.
