Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight on the Road

HARRISONBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis won its third in a row on the road, downing Colonial Athletic Association foe James Madison, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon.

The Tribe (5-4, 1-1 CAA) won the doubles point thanks to a tiebreaker victory at the top spot from graduate student Brenden Volk and sophomore George Davis. Graduate student Lev Kazakov (No. 2) and seniors Finbar Talcott (No. 4) and Sebastian Quiros (No. 5) claimed singles wins to secure the Tribe victory.

W&M won its eighth straight against the Dukes (4-5, 0-1 CAA) and for the 25th time in the last 26 meetings between the schools.

How It Happened
- The Tribe secured the doubles point with a come-from-behind tiebreaker win at the top spot. Volk and Davis trailed 5-2 to the JMU pair of Holden Koons and Paul Mendoza before winning five of the next six games to force a tiebreaker. In the breaker, the Tribe tandem rolled to a 7-3 win to clinch the doubles point. Volk and Davis evened their record at 4-4.
- After a JMU win at the No. 3 doubles spot, Kazakov and junior Joseph Brailovsky picked up a 6-4 win over Alvaro Arce and Gonzalo Adis on line two to pull the Tribe even. Brailovsky and Kazakov improved to 5-2 at No. 2.
- The majority of the opening sets in singles were played outdoors but due to inclement weather, the match was forced indoors.
- Kazakov made quick work of Oscar Hernandez at No. 2 to extend the Tribe lead to 2-0. He dropped just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 win to even his ledger at 4-4.
- Senior Finbar Talcott made it 3-0 with a straight-sets win at No. 4. He topped Paul Mendoza, 7-5, 6-3, upping his record to a team-leading 6-3.
- After JMU won at the top singles position, senior Sebastian Quiros clinched the team triumph with a straight-sets win at No. 5. He won the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3) over Mario Pena, before rolling to a 6-0 win in the second. Quiros improved to 5-4 on the year.
