WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore
Alexander Levengood scored his first career brace in leading William & Mary men's soccer to a 2-0 win over Charleston in both teams' Colonial Athletic Association opener at the Dillard Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Levengood scored once in each half for his first two goals of the season, while the Tribe defense and redshirt freshman
Will Stack notched their first shutout of the season.
The third time was a charm in the first half for Levengood. After missing a pair of quality chances in the first 20 minutes, the Richmond, Va., native put the Tribe on the board with volley just eight minutes before the intermission. Sophomore
Nathan Messer set up the play, serving the ball in from the right flank. It found the foot of a charging Levengood who buried the chance into the bottom right corner of the frame from eight yards out.
The Tribe controlled possession and the game in the final 45 minutes. After Levengood rang a shot off the right post from 18 yards out in the 50th minute, the Tribe doubled its lead just two minutes later via a penalty kick.
A good combination along the left flank set junior
James Bradley free. He made a nice tough around a defender into the penalty area and was taken down from behind, resulting in the PK. Levengood converted the spot kick to push the Tribe lead to 2-0.
