Joseph Brailovsky tallied singles wins on Monday afternoon but Liberty topped William & Mary, 5-2, in the first match play at the newly-minted Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
How It Happened
- The Flames (5-3) opened the match by taking the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. It marked the first time this season that W&M (1-2) dropped the initial point of the match.
- Liberty won the first four singles matches off the court in straight sets to cement the team triumph. The Flames notched victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5.
- Brailovsky and Talcott recorded three-set wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, to provide the final margin.
- After dropping the first set, 6-3, to Goncalo Ferreira on line four, Brailovsky responded with a 6-2 win in the second. The Tribe junior picked up his first win of the 2021 campaign thanks to a 6-4 triumph in the decisive third set.
- At No. 6, Talcott improved to 2-1 with a three-set win. The Tribe senior claimed the opening set from Liberty's Zion Heaven, 6-3, before the Flames player responded with a tiebreaker win in the second, 7-6 (5). With the team result decided, Talcott outlasted Heaven in the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-7.
