WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Women's track and field sophomore
Chelsea Mitchell was named the William & Mary Student-Athlete of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday.
Mitchell earned the honor after an exceptional performance in the opening indoor meet of year at Navy. She set a pair of school record in the long jump and 60-meter dash.
Mitchell's jump of 5.97 meters won the event at Navy and surpassed Alyssa Gaeto's mark of 5.81 meters in 2008. In the 60 meters, she finished in fourth with a time of 7.74, edging the previous school-record mark of Erica Johnson (7.76) in 2006.
In the classroom, Mitchell earned CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor roll distinction as a freshman in 2020-21.
