RICHMOND, VA.- A slow start coupled with an impressive offensive showing from the opposition was too much to overcome as William & Mary fell 90-52 at Richmond Sunday afternoon. The Tribe was only able to score four points in the opening frame, and the Spiders offense was efficient shooting 57% from the field, 52% from three.
Sydney Wagner and Ava Stevenson paced the Tribe with 12 points in the contest, both shooting 2-5 from three. Kate Sramac was 3-5 from deep, chipping in 11 points. Overall, the Green and Gold shot 44.4% from deep, knocking down eight triples.
The Tribe was unable to find an offensive rhythm in the early going. Bre Bellamy was 2-4 from the field in the opening frame, but her four points were the only scoring the Green and Gold muster as Richmond led 13-4 after the first 10 minutes.
Midway through the second quarter, Richmond used a trio of three-point baskets on back to back trips down the floor to break open a 26-8 lead. A 7-0 Spider run later in the frame would make it a 23-point game. The Tribe would put a stop to the run via a Sramac three-point basket. Sramac knocked down a second three as the buzzer sounded in the second quarter, but the Tribe would head to the locker room trailing by 18.
Bellamy and Wagner would each knock down a triple, and score five points each in the third quarter, but Richmond's hot shooting would continue to plague the Tribe. The Spiders shot 10-15 from the field, 5-7 from deep to record 27 points in the frame.
Stevenson knocked down a pair of threes and scored eight of her 12 points in the final frame. Wagner and Sramac also added triples as the Tribe shot 4-6 from deep in the final 10 minutes of play.
Next Up: The Tribe will have a full week off before hosting Norfolk State next Sunday. The two I-64 rivals will tip off at noon in Kaplan Arena
