LYNCHBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis freshman Hedda Gurholt won for the third day in a row to earn a spot in the ITA Atlantic Region Super Regional.
 
The Tribe rookie won in straight-sets 6-4, 6-3 over No. 12 seeded Michaela Kucharova of West Virginia in the qualifying round of 16. With the win, Gurholt became one of eight qualifiers from the weekend for the Super Regional at Virginia, Oct. 22-25. She was one of two unseeded players to advance.
 
Gurholt improved to 5-1 on the year and joins senior Mila Saric in the main singles draw of the Super Regional.  
 
Freshman Emma Fernald and junior Alisia Manolescu had their run in the doubles qualifying draw come to an end on Sunday. After upsetting the No. 6-seeded Virginia Tech team on Saturday, the Tribe tandem dropped a 6-3 decision to the top-seeded West Virginia team of Camilla Emilia Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang in the quarterfinals.  
 
In consolation singles action, senior Lisa Fukutoku topped Virginia's Nicole Kiefer in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6. Fukutoku improved to 4-2 on the year.
 
The Tribe returns to action when Gurholt and Saric take part in the ITA Atlantic Super Regional, Oct. 22-25, in Charlottesville, Va.
