W&M enters Saturday's game with a 5-2 record overall and a 3-1 mark in conference play. The Tribe is coming off its best performance of the season after earning a 40-14 victory against Towson last Saturday. In addition to scoring a season-high 40 points, W&M piled up 529 total yards and 339 yards on the ground. Defensively, the Tribe generated six turnovers, including four interceptions. W&M continues to boast the CAA's top-ranked rushing attack an is averaging 211.0 yards per game, which includes 257.8 yards per contest during the last five games. Defensively, W&M ranks among the nation's top 20 in sacks with 19.
Ranked fourth nationally, Villanova owns a 6-1 record overall and is unbeaten in conference play with a 4-0 mark. The Wildcats' lone loss this season came at Penn State, while it owns victories against a pair of nationally ranked opponents - then-No. 3 James Madison (28-27) and then-No. 21 Richmond (34-27). VU ranks second in the CAA in both scoring offense (34.6) and scoring defense (15.4).
Saturday's game will mark the 36th meeting between W&M and Villanova, as the Tribe owns an 18-16-1 all-time record against the Wildcats. After losing six consecutive contests to VU from 2005-09, W&M has won four of the last seven matchups. Additionally, seven of the last eight matchups have been decided by a touchdown or less. Although W&M lost in the teams' last meeting, 35-28, in Williamsburg in 2019, the Tribe earned a 24-17 victory in its last trip to Villanova in 2018.
